ARAI Grants First PLI-AUTO Certificate to Tata Motors STARBUS 4/12 EV

Mumbai: Tata Motors has been conferred upon by ARAI the first PLI-Auto certificate in the M3 Category for its 12 m long fully built bus.

The vehicle is the electric Starbus 4/12 EV and is offered in air-conditioned and non-conditioned configuration. Aimed at urban transportation, the bus is a low floor construction. It has a GVW of 18 and 19 tonnes.

Producing a peak power of 200 kW, the roomy interior of the bus can be customised as per the application and regulations. With a range of 200 km with opportunity charging, the vehicle conforms to high safety and security with Intelligent Transport System (ITS).

The PLI-AUTO certificate is a testament to Tata Motor’s commitment to innovation and conformity to industry standards. The TATA STARBUS 4/12 EV is a pioneering model in the electric bus segment, showcasing advancements in sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions. The award from ARAI acknowledges the vehicle’s compliance with safety, performance, and environmental regulations.

The inclusion of both AC and Non-AC variants demonstrates Tata Motors’ versatility in meeting diverse market needs and preferences. Speaking on the achievement, a spokesperson from Tata Motors expressed gratitude for the recognition from ARAI. The PLI-AUTO certificate not only validates the technological prowess of Tata Motors but also underscores their role in driving the adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

The TATA STARBUS 4/12 EV represents a leap forward in the Indian automotive industry’s transition towards sustainable mobility. With zero-emission capabilities and a focus on passenger comfort, it aligns with the nation’s broader goals of reducing carbon footprint and promoting cleaner forms of transportation.

Capable of a top speed of 65 kmph, it seats up to 32 people including the driver. Laced with new generation telematics for efficient and user-friendly vehicle maintenance as well as tracking, the Starbus 4/12 EV could be had with a passenger information system with destination boards and audio announcements too.

Flaunting a stylish interior and exterior with LED headlamps, the bus has plush interior lighting and various utilities for convenient travel such as charging ports and Wi-Fi hotspot for on-the-go connectivity.

With regenerative braking for high efficiency, the Starbus is equipped with pneumatically operated disc brakes and EBS. The suspension is pneumatic in nature and electronically controlled. The battery of the vehicle takes about two to three hours to fast charge.
