New Delhi: Ashok Leyland posted a steady performance in March 2025, driven by robust demand in the bus segment, even as the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment continued to struggle. The company reported a 6% year-on-year increase in domestic sales, reaching 22,510 units, up from 21,187 units in March 2024. However, cumulative sales for the financial year dipped 2% to 179,842 units, compared to 182,700 units in the previous year.
The Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) segment delivered a mixed performance. The truck segment recorded 9% growth in March 2025, with 12,882 units sold, up from 11,773 units in the same month last year. However, fiscal year sales declined 5% to 93,540 units, compared to 98,111 units in FY 2023-24.
The bus segment emerged as a key growth driver, posting an impressive 22% increase in March 2025 sales, reaching 3,200 units, up from 2,614 units a year ago. Cumulative sales for the fiscal year surged 18% to 21,253 units, compared to 17,956 units in the previous year. This strong demand in the bus segment helped the overall M&HCV category grow by 12% in March, although fiscal year sales remained slightly lower by 1% at 114,793 units, compared to 116,067 units last year.
In contrast, the LCV segment continued to face headwinds. Sales in March 2025 dropped 5% to 6,428 units, down from 6,800 units in March 2024. Fiscal year sales declined 2% to 65,049 units, compared to 66,633 units in the previous year. The segment’s slowdown reflects ongoing challenges in demand and supply chain dynamics affecting smaller commercial vehicles.
Including exports, Ashok Leyland’s total vehicle sales reached 24,060 units in March 2025, marking a 6% increase from 22,736 units a year earlier. Cumulative sales for the financial year remained stable at 195,097 units, compared to 194,553 units in FY 2023-24.
Exports supported the M&HCV truck segment, which grew 7% in March 2025, with 13,019 units sold, up from 12,214 units in March 2024. However, fiscal year sales in this category declined 3% to 96,862 units, from 100,220 units in the previous year. The M&HCV bus segment continued its upward trend, recording a 25% sales jump in March 2025, reaching 4,019 units, up from 3,218 units in March 2024. Fiscal year sales also increased 19% to 29,169 units, compared to 24,533 units last year.
Total M&HCV sales, including exports, grew 10% to 17,038 units in March 2025, up from 15,432 units a year ago. Fiscal year sales in this category saw a 1% increase, reaching 126,031 units, compared to 124,753 units in FY 2023-24.
